In the 2004 financial year Cochran program has offered training to two groups of businessmen from Russian retail chains, restaurant running sector and credits cooperatives, who participated in FMI Chicago, HRI shows where useful contacts has been established for purchase of canned vegetables, pop-corn, lobsters, bakery frozen products and seafood diversifying Russian market.

A team of 4 participants in credit cooperatives has formed valuable connections with Farm Credit Association which will help Russian cooperators to learn experience of American rural cooperative banks and credit associations. A participant in the FY03 introduced sales promotions effective during certain hours to boost otherwise slow at those hours business, another borrowed from the "dollar store" concept, setting aside one section of the store to sell all products at one price - 33,33 rubles. There were concluded purchase contracts with such Russian well-known supermarkets as Perekriostok and Seventh Continent, particularly in diary, sausage, meat, fish and soy products.

Participants of Cochran Fellowship FY04 Program are also promoting American companies IGA, AWI, Weaver, Kellog to Russian market through interviews published in Russian agricultural magazines. A participant in FY03 was recently promoted to Deputy Head of MinAg of Russia and will serve a vital contact for USDA in matters of trade of meat and genetics products.
