Marketing Trends

The Russian retail sector has seen boom times, doubling every three years. In the near future that boom growth can slow down as the market reaches some level of maturation. Supermarkets and older Soviet-style stores are losing their positions to the price discounters and huge hypermarkets that more and more represent the big players in retail turnover. In 2006, total food and grocery sales at all sales points was estimated by Goskomstat to have been $145 billion in 2006, of which $80 billion was in formal grocery retailing. This report discusses the latest trends in retail and in the science of marketing in Russia.
